ELIZABETHAN FARMHOUSE

Careful renovations and extensions to an Elizabethan farmhouse in Devon.

Unsympathetic modern alterations were removed to reveal the character of the original building, while new interventions were introduced with restraint and clarity.

A bright living room extension forms a light-filled counterpoint to the farmhouse’s darker, more intimate historic rooms, while the kitchen is extended to provide practical utility spaces.

Constructed with natural stone, lime render, and local oak, the additions sit quietly alongside the historic fabric of the house. Generous joiner-made timber framed windows add a contemporary element whilst maximising daylight to the interiors.

Supplied by low carbon systems; solar panels, ground source heat pumps, and off grid drainage, the project secures the long term sustainability of the farmhouse.
