PASSIVE HOUSE

A new self-build passive house in Suffolk.

Homes built to the Passivhaus standard often rely on complex layered constructions, high embodied carbon materials, and plastic membranes.

Can we challenge this and build simply with low carbon natural materials, whilst still targeting low energy demand and net zero energy use?

The house utilises a material palette of timber, hemp, and lime. The facade draws on Suffolk’s rich tradition of pargetting – the act of pattern making in lime render.
